Leaving the Nest

While checking on the Blue Bird box yesterday, I
realized something was going on. to my surprise
there was a struggle going on.

The young were trying to leave the nest. I've never
witnessed this before, so I sat with camera, to
snap some pictures of the event.

From the time I sat down it took the first young
fifteen minutes to get into position and finally
fly to moma and papa bird.
Papa Bird showes the nervous wear of the event.

Finally.....
Umphh....

One final stretch.......

And Away it went. Momma and papa waiting.
I will show the second young in my next post.
The second had a terrible struggle and I thought
I might have to open the door and let it out.

Helicopter lifting water.

D.N.R. fighting Forest fire.
Department of Natural Resources fighting
Isolated fire.

The Helicopter was picking up water from
a pond on a friend's property.

Above it drops,
and below it lifts.
Around and around very quickly.

And off to make a drop on the fire. They do a great job.

Somewhat dangerous to themselves.

Stiff & Wesson ?

A long slow ride.
I shot these through the window of our car.

Yes, that's a Casket, a real Casket. I can
only hope there's not a real BODY in it.

Notice the County, "Long".

Is this going out in style or What ?

To Paint or not to Paint.

Don't paint the whole Blue Bird Box.
The above Photo shows the entrance as repaired,
smoothed and sanded to prevent damage to
the Birds feathers. While standing to snap this
photo a Blue Bird flew out of the entrance. I
looked inside and there is a newly built nest.
I waited 5 days to see if there would be any interest
in the newly painted Box and there was none.
