Buzzards,January Freeze 2014

Buzzards trying to warm up.

This was supposed to be a big ice event.
Thank you Lord, it was not.
Temperature hovered at 32 degrees light rain,
from tuesday afternoon to (still at 32 degrees)
ice on car windshields and drips on trees froze.
But it was not a major event like predicted.

Keeping my bird feeders full.

Freeze Japanese Magnolias 2014

Freeze Damage
These would open to reveal a beautiful Pink Flower.
With the cold temperature's we've had, there's not much hope.

The above opening bud is from a few years ago,
healthy they should look like this one.

Birdie at my feet.

I Was Unaware.
During the recent cold snap I was standing outside
our front door, in a kind of foyer. I was snapping
small birds at the frozen bird baths and feeders in
our yard. I became aware of something moving
at my feet. This little bird is what I saw. I thought
if I move it will fly away, so we stood there looking
at one another. Finally I pointed the camera down
and snapped and these are the pics I got. What luck.

Lizard Home

Lizard found a home
in faucet freeze
protection bonnet.

The bird baths froze Monday night Jan. 6th
16 deg. and have just thawed completely.
I stuff the inside of the bonnet with shopping
bags to aid in insulating.
Doesn't it look comfie. The black thing is a heavy
rubber material. The closed loop goes under the
faucet outlet, and has a sliding spring loaded
stop on the outside that holds the bonnet
snug to the building wall as seen in the
first photo.

I hope my Japanese tulip tree survives,
16 deg. weather, it is full of buds.
